Trace
We are pleased to report that Trace is adjusting well to his new home in Pittsburgh. As you know, he is truly a “gentleman” in every way. We LOVE him dearly … we could not have asked for a better boy.!!! It was “LOVE at first sight” when we met him at your home.
We can report that:
Trace adjusted to the “car-ride” quite well… the three hour trip was uneventful.
Trace has met several neighborhood dogs … there is NO dog aggression … he is curious when meeting dogs AND very polite.
Trace was sweet and gentle when meeting the neighbor children … they petted and hugged him … there is NO fear of child aggression.
Trace LOVES his food … he eats everything in the bowl, yet does not gobble it as if it were his last meal … I am continuing to feed the 5 cups (as you were doing) divided into three daily portions.
To our great joy, Trace is an excellent walker on leash. He never pulls, but rather walks beautifully beside the left leg (like a perfect heeling dog)!!! I cannot believe this beautiful boy was abandoned by anyone … someone must have taught him how to HEEL.
Trace had his first “play-date” today with golden retriever, BEAR … it went very well … it was a socialization period and both boys passed with flying colors … Trace barked with excitement, as both dogs ran together … it was a lovely sight to see Trace run, his collie mane flowing beautifully … after the initial running, they walked together … there was a lot of sniffing.
Trace does not go up or down STAIRS yet. We are NOT forcing him to do the stairs. We are waiting for his comfort-level to improve. I am using the technique of feeding him on the steps, gradually moving the bowl, one step at a time. He is now on step #2.
Exercising Trace will be NO problem … Leland and I both love to walk him … we are gradually increasing the distance of the walks … he has not shown signs of wearying. Since it is very hilly where we live, we are being cautious with the distance. (I am panting at the top of a hill, but Trace is not)
Our first VET appt will be monday the 25th … I will report to you the vet’s examination, particularly his weight … I am curious to know his weight, whether he should gain or not.
Lastly, Trudy and Tom, we thank you for fostering Trace. You have helped restore a beautiful, worthy collie … enabling him to move into a FOREVER home. Trace will continue to be LOVED and CHERISHED as he lives with us for the remainder of his years. We feel very fortunate in the adoption of Trace. THANK YOU for letting him go … I know you miss him. We are grateful to you both, and to ALMOST HOME RESCUE. I will keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Gayle Chalker
