Dallas is a small smooth Collie [what's this?] with a soft, easy care coat. He is described as a sweetheart by everyone who meets him. He loves to be petted and moves in close when you talk in his ear. When he is happy or excited he will point up his nose and do a quick little howl, almost like a yodel.

Dallas is completely housebroken and crate trained but does not need to be crated at all, as he is very trustworthy in the house. He gets along with all dogs, young and old, large and small. He easily gets around on his own and seems to like it that way. He likes going for walks and loves to ride in a car. Dallas is a good watch dog only barking when he hears new voices.

Dallas visited an Ophthalmologist and was found to have been born with inherited retinal degeneration (PRA). As a result, cataracts have formed and he is now functionally blind in both eyes. Unfortunately, removal of the cataracts will not improve his vision. This is not a painful condition and Dallas has adjusted well to his vision loss. Dallas will require one eye drop in each eye to prevent inflammation from causing secondary glaucoma. Given this, he would do best in a home where the routine and environment are somewhat consistent.

Dallas is able to completely map out his surroundings. He goes in and outside and up and down stairs with ease. Dallas uses on his other senses of hearing, touch and smell. He listens closely and comes when called. Dallas walks very lightly on his feet and almost looks like he is high stepping and quickly jumps over anything in his way.

His fine sense of smell has him pretty busy in the house. While Dallas is interested in cats, his interest is not obsessive but rather a total fascination. He loves searching for them and wags his tail when he finds them. Then he will sit quietly waiting for the cat to move again. Sometimes he will nuzzle the cat trying to play with it or get it to move again.

He is a wonderful little companion with lots of love to give to a family who will accept him for the great dog he is.

The adoption contribution for Dallas is $250.00. Please contact Daryl at halvacs@aol.com for more information about Dallas or any of our other magnificent dogs.

Adopt a Dog

Please ask your friends to adopt dogs from shelters or rescues rather than buying them from pet stores. A dog is killed due to the lack of a home approximately every 9 seconds ... adopting rescue or shelter dogs will help to reduce the number of dogs euthanized in shelters; it will also reduce the demand for puppies bred for sale in pet stores in the inhumane conditions of puppy mills.
