Adoption

Welcome to the Adoption page for Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio. These adoption guidelines and criteria are meant as an avenue to help us learn about your family and lifestyle.

Our primary goals include health, safety and well-being of the dogs in our program. With the background information you provide during the application process, we may best assist you in selection of your new family member.

Please review the guidelines listed below before proceeding to the application.

Guidelines & Criteria

You must be 21 years of age.

You must be willing to make a 10 to 20 year commitment to the dog.

We do not adopt out dogs to be given as gifts.

All dogs will be indoor companions.

You must have a secure fenced yard or be committed to multiple daily leash walks in all kinds of weather (snow, heat, ice, pouring rain, etc.)

If you are living in a rental property, you must provide written proof of landlord approval and payment of any required pet deposit.

All current pets in the household must be spayed/neutered and current on all shots. Veterinarian references are verified.

Our adoption contract legally binds you to provide the dog with proper veterinary care, including a yearly wellness exam, up-to-date required vaccinations, and emergency care if necessary. You must also agree to keep the dog on monthly heartworm prevention.

Our adoption process intentionally includes several steps and cannot be completed in one day. Expect this process to take 1-2 weeks from the time you submit an application to the time the dog will be in your home.

We reserve the right to deny an application without explanation.

Adopt a Dog

Please ask your friends to adopt dogs from shelters or rescues rather than buying them from pet stores. A dog is killed due to the lack of a home approximately every 9 seconds ... adopting rescue or shelter dogs will help to reduce the number of dogs euthanized in shelters; it will also reduce the demand for puppies bred for sale in pet stores in the inhumane conditions of puppy mills.
