Legislation and Initiatives For 2011, Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio is placing community involvement at the forefront by devoting more time and manpower to education in addition to rescue and rehoming. As part of this redirection, we will include a renewed emphasis on educating the public on the importance of participating in the reintroduction of legislation to help Ohio companion animals.
We want to get the word out about the horrors of puppy mills and encourage legislation to ban dog auctions. We want to push the ideas of spay and neuter and why they are so important. We want to talk to our neighbors and friends and schools and strangers. Yes, solving the problems of abused and abandoned dogs is an uphill battle, but if we can educate people, then we’re doing something to help resolve the battle, not just dealing with the end result. The Ohio Dog Auctions Act would enact Section 955.54 of the Ohio Revised Code to make it unlawful for any person to auction, as defined in R.C.4707.01, or raffle a dog within Ohio for any purpose.
