Meet Ellie

Description:

When 10-year-old Ellie arrived she needed medical attention for heartworm, an ear infection, hookworm and whipworm. Since heartworm treatment is expensive, Ellie was placed in the Senior to Senior program. This means AHDRO will cover all her expenses, and Ellie will live permanently with her senior foster parents. It’s a win-win!

Ellie’s new foster parents had another senior foster from AHDRO before and loved the experience. They can give an older dog the extra care and attention the senior dog needs in a stable home environment, while receiving their foster dog’s unconditional love and companionship.

With heartworm, staying calm is just as important as taking medication—too much excitement can strain her heart. Thankfully, Ellie’s senior fosters are home and able to make sure she stays calm while getting all her medications on time and receiving lots of love and attention. While Ellie is in treatment and recuperation mode, her foster dad is recovering from surgery. They will get through this time together.

Ellie is quiet and loves young and old alike. She is well behaved. Ellie’s foster mom says she is definitely smarter than they are. When they were struggling to lift her into the car, Ellie figured it out herself—placing her front paws in the well behind the front seat, then she calmly put her back paws in and stepped up and onto the seat. She made it look effortless and seemed to be looking out for them, just as they are for her.

Ellie’s foster mom wrote, “We are beyond grateful to AHDRO for the chance to share Ellie in our lives. The people in AHDRO have been so wonderful and supportive. I have asked many questions so I appreciate their patience with us. Thank you, AHDRO.”

If Ellie could write, I think she’d be sending her own thank-you—to AHDRO for sending her to live in a loving home with her new mom and dad.
