Meet Leo

Description:

Leo’s foster mom was told that Leo was in good health, energetic and a little bit goofy, and she knew they were a match. His foster mom discovered right away that Leo is oh so very easy to love. Right now his foster brother is able to resist Leo’s charm, but they are in the early days of their relationship. Even with that bump in the road, Leo has been lovingly welcomed into his forever foster family. Leo is affectionate and, though a senior, still loves going on walks and playing with his toys.

Sometimes, through no fault of their own, dogs are separated from the family they thought was theirs. Some dogs bear those scars. Leo has been able to set that aside and continue to be a fun-loving, easygoing and peace-loving lad. All he asked was to feel safe again, and his foster mom has assured Leo that she and her home can be all that and much more.

Leo truly has never met a stranger. He greets everyone with kisses and reveals his goofy yet gentle heart. Car rides are pure joy for him—“Oh, boy!” he’s in bliss, happily giving ear washes to the person in the front seat and hanging his head out the window so he doesn’t miss a single passing moment of the world.

Other simple pleasures of this sweet 12-year-old Scottish collie mix are a soft bed and being close to his clan. He isn’t demanding, just grateful. He longed for stability, loyalty and love, and Almost Home was able to deliver exactly that by bringing a senior person and senior dog together for a fairytale match. Foster mom and Leo have started to live “happily ever after.”

The final chapter of his fairy tale, however, is bigger than just him, it’s about those who help support the Senior-to-Senior Foster Program, ensuring Leo, other senior dogs in permanent foster care, and those still to come all get their own chance at a true happily ever after with the care they deserve.
