Meet Patrick
Description:
Patrick, has a story that could have been a sad one, like many in the Senior-to-Senior (S2S) program. He was placed in the program because of his age. When Patrick arrived, he was underweight, heartworm positive, had low vision in one eye, and microphthalmia (small, sunken eyes). Whew, that’s quite a list! But what Patrick has in even greater abundance is love.
This special boy quickly captured hearts at AHDRO, and his fosters were asked if they’d consider becoming his permanent foster family—a perfect match of special people and a very special dog.
His foster parents always adopt seniors, knowing they sometimes get overlooked despite having so much life and love left to give. They weren’t looking to add to their family, but when the call came, they didn’t hesitate! Undaunted by Patrick’s medical needs, they responded in the affirmative: ready, willing and able to make Patrick’s last years the best ever.
Have you ever seen the movie, Fifty First Dates? His fosters joke that each morning feels like a fresh start as he relearns his routines and settles in, as if he’s saying, “Oh, I don’t know…” about everything. Their cheerful, loving approach to Patrick’s personality and needs is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
They say Patrick is clumsy, which might relate to his poor vision. He’s a big fan of bath-time dance parties (especially when accompanied by singing), and when you say his name, he delivers a full-on classic collie head tilt. Though he hasn’t been with his foster family long, he’s already had his first dream where he’s running, which made them smile. He also loved going on his first “snootcation” (vacation) with the family, and they assured Patrick that more adventures are coming soon.
With Patrick’s expensive medical care being paid for by AHDRO’s S2S program, Patrick and his foster mom and dad don’t have to worry about his health treatments not being covered. This leaves all of them free to love and be loved and to have days filled with more dance parties and getaways.
Welcome to your wonderful forever home, Patrick!
