Meet Sophie
Description:
So often, Senior-to-Senior (S2S) fosters say that they take in the senior dogs because they don’t want to have dogs who might outlive them, combined with not being in a position to afford a senior dog’s potential medical bills. These are two of the reasons the S2S program is a win-win for both senior dog and senior human.
Sophie is in the program because of her age. But like so many older dogs, no one has told Sophie she’s in her senior years. Upon arrival at her new home, she followed her foster mom into the bedroom, used the stairs and got up on the bed—acting like she’d always been there. At 4:30 every day, she lets everyone know it is dinner time. She and her foster sister even work as a herding team to make sure everyone is in their appropriate place doing their scheduled task. Everyone in the house gets a turn to play fetch with Sophie because she loves it so much. She also loves to snuggle and then snuggle some more.
Senior dogs may be in their later years, but Sophie is proof that it doesn’t mean they can’t still be lively, engaging companions who bring lots of love, joy and fun with them.
